Final Exams

so i just finished my last final exam and i am so relieved. this is the most stressful time of year for all students because we just want to get it done. and as soon as we finish one final, we have to clear our minds and memorize an entire new set f ten weeks of material! this school really is flexible with the finals schedule which is something i really appreciate and think more students should. other things i like are how they open the library for extended hours to accommodate the late night owls. and with things like food for finals and cram jam at egan, it takes some of the stress off of finals and gives you an alternative place and environment to do your studying. i also dont think we realize how great the trimester system is for finals. we have so much less to worry about at a time!!!.... just it happens more often.

PArking

Parking on campus basically just pisses me off. I know, that sounds idiotic, but really sometimes I wish I just didn’t even have a car on campus. First of all, I can’t parallel park to save my life, so getting a spot in the street is a no-go. Secondly, by the time I get home from work at 11 pm, all the spots in my adjacent lot are taken. Therefore I have to go all the way up the street, park in a lot that is wicked far away from my building, and then run in the freezing cold to my apartment, only to go out to my car the next day and find a ticket on my windshield for some ridiculous offense. Not to mention the ridiculous rules and regulations and limitations of the almighty “parking pass”. You can’t park in the circle in front of old main, you can’t park by the library, you can’t park at Baldwin, you can’t park at D’angelo, and you can’t park at Hirt. What is the damn point of even having a parking pass if I can’t come right from work or rehearsal and go to class? Instead I have to repeat the routine I mentioned above before I get to class, which puts me at being about ten minutes late, in turn causing my grades and reputation to suffer. In conclusion, I think there should be reformations made to the parking situation here at Mercyhurst College. What they may be, I’m not quite positive but I’m working on it.

Ambassadors

The concept of “student ambassadors” has always baffled me. I think that overall, it is a great program, but I really just don’t understand why kids have to be put through the ringer just to give tours and memorize some facts. Now that I think about it, I bet that if you gave me some little senior in high school and asked me to give them a tour of the school that I could probably pull it off. I mean who really cares what year the PAC was built anyway? All you need to know is how the school works, where things are, and what services are offered. What really gets me though is what it takes to become an ambassador. It should be a reality television show. Its basically the same thing as Survivor. Except like they’re allowed to eat. And they don’t get bit by mosquitoes. I had a friend who lived in my dorm freshman year that is now an ambassador. I remember all the ridiculous stuff he had to do, like write pretend speeches for pretend people and memorize them. And at the end of the week the ambassador elders vote someone off the ambassador tribe. Its weird. Hm, the lengths some people go to for scholarships

Oh Canada....

Being an Employee of Hollister Co. in the Millcreek Mall, i see allot of interesting things. but i have never witnessed anything like i did Sunday. as i was pulling in to the parking lot at the beginning of my shift, i saw a mall workers worst nightmare... over 15 Canadian Tourism buses. now let me clear something up before i go any further and people think i have something against Canadians or that i am prejudice. i actually love Canadians. its just Canadians come to America to shop for cheaper prices, but the state of PA has no sales tax on clothing, and Erie is the closest place in PA with a decent shopping center, so when they come... they come by the bus loads. and they are here with one purpose and one purpose only... to buy as much as they possibly can at the cheapest price possible while destroying everything in sight. just kidding on that last part(sort of). in the process of working, i got shoved, pushed, elbowed, and hip checked into a table. i felt like i was in a hockey game or something. i also almost started to cry when i was just finishing folding a huge pile of clearance t shirts and a woman with a maple leaf hat said to me "you might as well just stop, because i am absolutely going to destroy that" i could feel my eyes swell up because i understand that its my job to stand there and fold, but i just wish people would be a little more courteous. THANKS!

(your name here) of Love.

Reality TV is such a controversial topic to discuss. either you love it or you hate it. i personally absolutely love it. it is one of the most entertaining forms of entertainment in existence. my favorite part of it though is the editing they do after its all said and done. like the sound effects that stations like VH1 add are absolutely hilarious. but as much as i love it, i feel like EVERYONE has their own reality show. while watching the latest episode of "Rock of Love Charm School with Sharon Osbourne", i saw previews for "Daisy of Love." Where a person who should be a contestant on the show where sharon tries to teach Bret Michael's trashy Exes to be real ladies is having her own show to find "true love". without even thinking about it, i can think of 6 reality stars who got rejected on one, but now are big enough to have their own show. all i have to say is...where can i sign up for my own show?

let it snow

this morning upon waking up and leaving to go to work, as i opened the door i was in shock. i could not believe that there was a full snow on the ground, and it looked like the middle of january. the day before yesterday i was wearing flip flops. i know this is very unoriginal of me...but... What is with Erie Weather???? i just cant believe the extremes we go through here. it is almost depressing because it really comes without warning, reason, rhyme or pattern. there is absolutely no predictions as of what could happen tomorrow. i mean i doubt this wont happen, but there is a chance it could be 80 degrees tomorrow and no one would see it coming!

Alexis Lee Boyer

My sister has a three and a half year old daughter, Lexi, and she is my god daughter as well as one of the most important things in my life. i am very close with her, and often feel like she is my own. however, i find it very frightning how mature she is for her age. her two favorite idols are Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana. she is three and a half. what happened to cabbage patch dolls and tinkerbell? i find it disturbing that these are the roll models for children this young. it is causeing them to grow up too fast. just the other day, Lexi told my sister that she thinks the Jonas Brothers are "SO cute". how does she even know what that means? is the media to blame for kids growing up too fast?
Turning 21 over the summer seemed to be one of the most exciting things that happened to me, but lately, i feel it hasnt been all its cracked up to be. i have had an extremely busy schedule lately and havent had many chances to "go out", but i am finding that i dont really miss it. i mean sure i have fun when i do, but i just dont really get how some people can do it 4 or 5 nights a week. there is some kind of special on every single night of the week in good old erie pa, and you often can get pretty drunk for under five dollars, but i think it would start to catch up to you. after going out two nights in a row i feel like i need four days of nothing to re energize and get back on track. but have fun and be safe when going out!!!

poor college student

why is it that no matter how hard you try in college, we are always scrounging for any money we can? i mean i dont know how many others are in my exact situation, but i pay for my own car, car insurance, gas, cell phone bill, and leisure. i also have a work study, and a part time job at the mall, but for some reason, i cant seem to get ahead financially. i try to work as much as i can and keep time for my school work and studying, but it just never seems to be enough. its tough being on your own financially and i think i am slowly learning all the tricks, but ANY advice will be greatly appreciated.

ELECTIONS

So yesterday was the election and i am happy to say the candidate that i supported won. i was also glad to see McCain maintain his grace and professionalism in the situation. that is not to say his supporters did the same. within moments of the results, i was called a "baby killer" and felt very attacked. soon after, i learned that one of the pople who called me this didnt even exercise their right to vote. i feel that everyone has a right to voice their opinion, but i also feel that if you dont take action and vote, there is no way you can complain. it really bugs me that so many people complain about the outcome of things like elections, but dont practice their right to vote. it rarely happens that we have to vote, and with new technology, it is easier than ever. so why do people choose not to vote? i have no idea. i voted and the actual voting process had me in and out in under three minutes. i think it is so important to vote, as well as respect others stances they may take on political issues. i think we all also need to realize that the majority of these issues will never have 100% support. there is no right and wrong. just because i support obama does not mean i amm a baby killer. i also feel people are ignorant, but have done no research or homework in terms of learning about the candidates.
